Atlanta Bloggers Like Me Meetup

Atlanta Bloggers Like Me, I am!

I’m a proud card-carrying Atlanta Bloggers Like Me (BLM) Girl, if you didn’t know or couldn’t tell by the pretty badge on my blog, . As I previously mentioned, the BLM Girls are a fantastic community of female bloggers who I have learned so much from, and made some fabulous connections through.

In October the BLM Girls will host several happy hours in NY, LA, Chicago, DC, Charlotte, and of course Atlanta. If you would like to join BLM and attend one of our future meetups, but you are unsure what’s in store for you, please watch this quick video recap of the first Atlanta Bloggers Like Me meetup I hosted.

The Atlanta Bloggers Like Me are a wonderful bunch of bloggers and I had a pleasure of hosting the first Atlanta BLM Meetup. I look forward to more meetups with the Atlanta Bloggers Like Me ladies in the future.

Breast Cancer Awareness: 3 Tips to Save Your Tatas

Big ones, medium ones, small ones, and “Oh Honey, you ain’t got nones!”

What am I talking about?! Boobies!

Yes, you know those two things sitting up on your chest. Or in my case, the two things that formerly sat upon my chest but now are taking up residence by my knees. Le. Sigh. This post is all about the tatas!

If you don’t know, or have forwarded your snail mail to the nearest rock you live under, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In our goal to spread breast cancer awareness the BLM Girls are participating in a blog hop.

I am hopping along with the BLM Girls to tell men and women, yes men get breast cancer too, three ways to reduce their risks for breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

1.) Get Your Weight Under Control!

Yes I know everyone can’t be the size of a fetus, but please watch the scale and take safe measures to reduce your weight if you are obese or grossly overweight. The reasons why: estrogen is produced by fat tissue, breasts are composed of fat tissue, larger breasts equal higher production of estrogen, and estrogen has been linked to fuel certain cancers. In other words, big tatas are nice but they could also be dangerous.

2.) Limit Your Alcohol Intake

Now look almost everyone loves to unwind with a glass or two of wine after work, or on the weekend. However, all things in moderation.

You can’t throw back half a bottle of Merlot every day, less than one drink a day is plenty. A National Cancer Institute study found women consuming one or two alcoholic drinks per day, had a 30 to 60 percent increase in breast cancer risk.

So, just say no sometimes to the alcohol.

3.) Limit Hormone Replacement Therapy.

I know, I know, I know you may not be old enough yet to think about hormone replacement therapy. Your inner child isn’t playing with matches and trying to burn you up inside out with hot flashes.

However, you will get there one day my little grasshopper and you will need to talk to your doctor about the risks of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to reduce the signs and symptoms of menopause.

If you are all ready post menopausal but you are still snatching your wig and clothes off when a hot flash strikes, and considering taking HRT, consider talking to your doctor about the lowest dose for the shortest amount of time. The Women’s Health Initiative Post Hormonal Therapy Trial discovered post menopausal women who take hormone therapy replacements which combine estrogen and progesterone have an increased risk of breast cancer.

Last, this isn’t prevention but it’s something we all should be doing:

Get your tatas smashed and feel on them regularly!

Mammograms are the best method to detect breast cancer early.

If you are between the ages of 40–49 years, talk to your doc about when and how often you should have a mammogram. If you are 50 and above, please be sure to have a mammogram every two years. For the rest of us 40 and below please feel your girls, or guys for the fellas, up! Perform a regular breast self-exam and look and feel for lumps, changes in the size or shape of your breasts, and for any changes in the armpit area.

What are you doing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Night Out Fun Around Atlanta with Instagram

So what had happened was….. Don’t you love it when a conversation or an apology starts off like that?!

Yeah me neither, but uhm what had really happened was I was a bit of a social busy bee in September. So much so that instead of sharing with you all my September escapades in individual blog posts, I just Instagrammed my patootie off.

However before you start with the, “I don’t follow you on Instagram” speech, I want you to know I got you mannnnn!

Check out my pics from Fashion Night Out Atlanta, Fro Fashion Week, and more!

Fashion Night Out Atlanta, G. Gilbert, Miss Foodie Fab, Bloggers

I had the best time at G. Gilbert’s Fashion Show during Fashion Night Out Atlanta. I met fellow bloggers, caught up with a blogger pal and her friends, and sipped myself silly with wine.

East Atlanta Strut, Miss Foodie Fab, PBR, Pabt Blue Ribbon

The mister & I hit up East Atlanta Strut sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. We ate good, saw a parade full of drag queens, & listened to cool bands. I even spotted a Star War’s storm trooper.

Pretty City, Live Beautifully, Shape Magazine, Miss Foodie Fab, Bloggers, Style Bloggers

Pretty City’s Live Beautifully Event was a blast! There were manicures, pole dancing, massages, wine, food, and all kinds of swag. I had a fabulous time and I can’t wait until they return!

Chickaritas, Kiwi the Beauty, Bloggers, Miss Foodie Fab

I hanged out with my lil sis, Kiwi the Beauty, at her Chickaritas event. Fun times were had sipping margaritas, shopping, and dishing about reality TV with fellow bloggers and friends.

Fall Fro Fashion Week, Natural Hair, Bloggers, Miss Foodie Fab, Curl's Unleashed, Natural Hair Bloggers

Attended the Fall Fro Fashion Week and it was right up my product junkie alley. I scored some great products to try out on my hair, swapped hair tips, and fell in love with Lisa’s hair.

Chef Liu, Dumplings, Green Tea, Noodles, Chinese Pancake, Foodie

After all the running around I did in September, it was time for some me time. I took myself on a date to my favorite ATL Chinese restaurant, and it was worth every bite.

Tribal Print: Because Style is not Limited to Size

*Jumps up and down and waves* Hey hey heyyyyyyy, were you looking for me?! No?! Well dag you didn’t have to say it so quickly. Let a sistah down easy.

Fine then, let me make it up to you with some grade A Miss Foodie Fab foolery. Andddd……action!

Running man, Follery, Miss Foodie Fab

You ain’t know about my running man, yo?!

You feel better now, you took the hate out your heart?! We good?! Did you get your woo woo woo on?!

Yes, you did. Don’t deny it. You still love me!

Fall is here as you know. Le. Boo. I’m not a fan of Fall. I’m a summer girl all day! It pains me to have to put away my maxi dresses and flip-flops every year.

So of course I had to enjoy the last days of the nice weather we had in Atlanta by breaking out my sandals and MC Hammer pants, or at least that’s what the mister calls them, one last time.

Every time I rock my Forever 21 tribal print pants the mister makes me do the Hammer dance. He’s such a hater on my fashion sense. Bless his heart. I’m convinced that is grounds for separation, but whatever.

Now y’all know I don’t do outfit posts, per say, but I do love getting my snap and pose on.

Ohhh and Bitzie, my hair, was very happy and manic that day so I decided she needed to be seen.

It’s amazing how hair can be bipolar. Some days she can be all, “I need some Cymbalta” then the next day she’s all, “Trick, I’m fabulous!” I’ve learned to let her just do what she do.
