New Hair Do Care Thanks To K Logan Hair

First off, I know. That. Title. Yes, I’m really that corny. Feel free to judge.

Now that we got that out the way….*tootsie rolls in with new hair*

So some of y’all follow me on da Instagram, some of y’all don’t. Which side note I’m not sure why you wouldn’t follow me, because my Instagram is *sings* fabuloussssss!

Anywhoo, if you follow me on da Instagram you would have seen a picture of me Beyonce twerkin with some new hair.

I had totally planned to come in and let you know all the details about my new hair. But then I ate some carbs, I jumped on Facebook, I took a nap. I ate some more carbs again, got sleepy, blah blah blah.

Then ya know I look up and realize I ain’t blogged nothing. Whoops.

Without further ado, my new hair courtesy of K Logan Hair. Drum roll, please.

K Logan Hair-Natural Hair-Black Atlanta Salons

Can you tell I was excited about my new hair?!

So, Akia of K Logan Hair is one of the first stylists I have met that immediately got what I wanted.

Odds are 99.9% of the time stylists, no matter how hard I try to explain, don’t understand what I want. Most stylists look at me like, “Are you even speaking English” when I explain to them the style I have in mind.

Not Akia. I told Akia I wanted a color that would look good whether my hair was straightened or in it’s natural curly state. I also told her I wanted a color in the sandy brown family.

She nailed it. Akia not only gave me the color I had in mind, but she also gave me a layered color. If you look closely you can see the top of my hair is lighter than the back.

Akia also gave my hair an over-due trim.

I really love my hair. It didn’t turn out as bone straight as I like, probably because I haven’t had heat on my hair in a million years, but when I walked out of K Logan Hair you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t gone with the wind fabulous.

If you are looking for a stylist in the Atlanta area, someone who listens to you and strives to give you want you want, please visit Akia of K Logan Hair.

You can find Akia at her salon and on Facebook, tell her Miss Foodie Fab sent you.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

DIY Nail Art

*sigh* You know how you totally have a great idea, and then it turns into a total fail. Well that’s what happened when I tried to be fancy with my nail art.

A. Total. Fail.

See, I saw this nail art design on Pinterest and thought, “Ohhh that’s easy, I can do that!”

Sally Hansen, Nail Art, Sinful Colors, Manicure, Nail Polish

So I ran over to my nearest Walgreens to purchase nail polish remover, quick dry nail polish, and a manicure clean-up pen with with my new Walgreens Balance Reward card.

Sally Hansen, Nail-Polish Remover, Cocoa-Butter, Quick Dry Nail Polish

Once I got home I broke out some of my favorite nail polishes, manicure supplies, and a nail art pen set gifted from my mother.

Sally Hansen, Nail Art, Sinful Colors, Manicure, Nail Polish

I soaked my nails, cleaned up my cuticles, and filed and buffed my nails to perfection.

I applied a green top coat, a coat of quick dry, pink and black polish, and a second coat of quick dry to my nails.

DIY Nail Art, Sally Hansen, DIY Manicure, Nail Art

I was pleased with my DIY nail art, at that point, because I could see my design taking shape.

Next I placed dots of various colors on my green coat of nail polish, and then it happened…..

A. Complete. Fail.

Because I had the brilliant idea to immediately apply a third coat of quick dry to my nails, my dots smeared all over. It was terrible. TERRIBLE. *sigh*

I mean I totally wanted it to look fabulous like some of the nail art found on Facebook.

Instead, I got this……

Sally Hansen, Nail Art, Sinful Colors, Manicure, Nail Polish

This.

Sally Hansen, Nail Art, Sinful Colors, Manicure, Nail Polish

And, this. *sits in corner wailing* Sally Hansen, Nail Art, Sinful Colors, Manicure, Nail Polish

I reckon I won’t quick my day job to become a professional manicurist, because I’m pretty sure no one wants a nail art design that looks like it was done by an inpatient five year old. *single tear*

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. Walgreens is having a 2 for $10 sale, thru 5/25, on Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure Polish. Full Figured Fashionista

I am a plus size, full figured, busty gal and I’m always on the look out for other fashionista with extra meat on their bones. Way before I started this blog, and before she had a blog, I had my eye on Britt of “My Big, Beautiful, Life!” Reason why, besides being a fellow team only child member and my giggle buddy, the girl has style. Every time she posts a pic on Instagram I’m  like, “Where did you get that, who did your hair, and what did you put on your face to make it look tighter than an African drum?!” So, it was only right that she kick off my monthly full figured fashionista series.

So, without further ado…introducing my girl Britt!

Full Figured, Fashionista, Curvy, Plus Size

What makes you a fashionista?

I cringe when I hear someone refer to me as a fashionista, because really…I don’t try to be! My sorority sister, Nishan, used to have this saying, “I look good…even on my worst day”! This is the mantra that I try to live by every day, and I guess that’s what makes me a fashionista. I’m going to look GOOD (or at least try to), even if I’m feeling the absolute worst!

Describe your style in five words?

Classy. Never trashy. Sometimes sassy.

Who are your style icons/inspires your style, and why?

I’m one of those people who never really follows celebrity style. Honestly, some of the people who inspire my style are everyday people! I tend to get a lot of my inspiration from fellow bloggers. Two of my favorites in particular are Brittany from “Pockets and Bows,” and Mia from “Diary of a Fatshionista.” I love both of their styles for different reasons. I like Brittany’s style, because she always looks nice without overdoing it. I find myself seeing how I can recreate her everyday looks for the office. Mia, because that girl is FIERCE when she goes out on the weekends! She WERKS every single look and I  “pink puffy heart” that. I LIVE when I see their outfit of the day or outfit of the night pictures on Instagram!

If you had to wear one item, in or outside of your closet, for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

A couple of weeks ago I would have said my denim vest, but I can’t say that now because I have developed a love affair with my new red blazer! I searched high and low this year and last for the perfect one, only to be disappointed when everyone I ordered just didn’t do it for me. A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon one that I love from a place I NEVER shop…Rainbow! I only bought it two weeks ago and I have worn that thing out. Blazers are essential to any wardrobe because of the versatility. They can be dressed up with a dress, or down with some jeans. I love them and I am so glad to FINALLY have my red one!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Being plus size, it’s hard to find great stuff in stores, so I do most of my shopping online. My obsession for ASOS is somewhat insane. It is the first place I go to when I am looking for a dress for an event, and nine times out of ten, I find it. Their Curve line is so versatile and very affordable. A close second for me is Forever21. Yes…I am almost 30 still shopping at Forever 21, and no…I really don’t care! Their plus size skinny jeans are the best and fit like a glove! I have also started shopping more at curvy online boutiques. My favorites are Curvy Chic Boutique, Everything Curvy and Chic, and ShapElyLouise.

How do you feel about labels such as plus size, full-figured, etc.

I don’t really agree with the use of labels to describe anything (especially size). However, it’s the reality of the world we live in and I have to deal with that. Being an African-American woman, I am labeled many things, so the label of plus size or full-figured just adds to the list. I can rant about how I hate it, get mad when someone refers to me as plus-size, or I can own it. I choose to own it, and make it FABULOUS!

How do you stay healthy and keep your curves?

Currently, what works best for me is maintaining a 1200 calorie per day diet and working out 5-6 times per week.  I usually do about 40-50 minutes of cardio and strength training on my workout days. I am at the point now that I don’t really try to focus or obsess about on the pounds. I focus on making better living choices.  They both go hand in hand, because when you make better living choices the pounds and inches will come off!

So there you have, do you see why Britt is a full figured fashionista?! Whoops, I know if she is reading this I probably just made her cringe by saying that, but whatever I call it like I see…..and she is all types of a fabulous full-figured fashionista. To see more of Britt working it, and hear what she has to say (she’s a bit of riot sometimes) head on over to her blog, FB, IG, and Twitter!

Ohhh, and P.S. A little birdie also told me if you head over to her blog now, you may see someone you know. *points to self and walks away*

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

Where is Miss Foodie Fab

*Jumps up and down and waves* Hey hey heyyyyyyy, were you looking for me?! No?! Well dag you didn’t have to say it so quickly. Let a sistah down easy. Fine then, let me make it up to you with some grade A Miss Foodie Fab foolery. Andddd……action!

Running man, Follery, Miss Foodie Fab

You ain’t know about my running man, yo?!

You feel better now, you took the hate out your heart?! We good?! Did you get your woo woo woo on?! Yes, you did. Don’t deny it. You still love me!

Fall is here as you know. Le. Boo. I’m not a fan of Fall. I’m a summer girl all day! It pains me to have to put away my maxi dresses and flip-flops every year. So of course I had to enjoy the last days of the nice weather we had in Atlanta by breaking out my sandals and MC Hammer pants, or at least that’s what the mister calls them, one last time. Every time I rock my Forever 21 tribal pants the mister makes me do the Hammer dance. He’s such a hater on my fashion sense. Bless his heart. I’m convinced that is grounds for separation, but whatever.

Now y’all know I don’t do outfit posts, per say, but I do love getting my snap and pose on. Ohhh and Bitzie, my hair, was very happy and manic that day so I decided she needed to be seen. It’s amazing how hair can be bipolar. Some days she can be all, “I need some Cymbalta” then the next day she’s all, “Trick, I’m fabulous!” I’ve learned to let her just do what she do.

Curltopia Salon Visit and Salon Review

I love going to the salon, like most women, but nothing makes me tootsie roll more than a salon that is attentive to my curly hair needs. Curltopia is that salon and more, and I had the great pleasure to return to Curltopia Salon after they hosted the Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curl preview.

Curltopia is a multi-ethnic curly hair boutique salon that specializes in all textures under the sun. Whether you have wavy, curly, coily, kinky, transitioning, relaxed, or unrelaxed hair, they have a stylist perfect for you. Any service you can imagine is offered at Curltopia. A cut, Deva-cut, color, highlights, roller set, blowout, wash & go, two strand twist, flat-twists, roller-sets, lock maintenance, relaxers, and thermal straightening are just a sample of the services provided by Curltopia stylists. Every service comes with a shampoo, complimentary deep conditioning treatment, consultation, a prescription of hand-selected products specifically for your hair, and instructions on how to maintain your hair at home.

Customer getting a “shingling.”

I particularly love the service provided at Curltopia. Ashli was my stylist for the day and she was very informative. During the service she made sure I was informed, comfortable, and asked questions about my hair and hair care routine. Ashli also explained what products she was using, why she was using them, and gave me a list of products and tips to maintain my hair on my own at home. Ashli was truly fabulous. It was nice to have a stylist who concentrated on me and my hair only, none of the rush and fuss I’ve normally encountered in the past at other salons. While I was sitting under the steamer, which is awesome and I need to buy one by the way, I noticed every client got in and out. Also, there was no signs of double booking or over booking. I was impressed! Curltopia is definitely about customer service.

Many popular “natural” hair product lines are available at the salon. Miss Jessie’s and the Moroccan Oil line are just a few of the products they use and carry, and even if you aren’t getting serviced you can buy the above products in the salon.

Culrtopia’s decor is extremely fabulous. The first time I stepped foot in the salon I was taken with the chandeliers and damask decor. If I could figure out how to steal their chairs, without going to jail, I would. In addition there is every magazine you could want in the salon. I caught up on Ebony, Cosmo, and Vogue during my service.

I received a wash, much needed and overdue cut, steam hydration treatment, and rod set the day of my Curltopia visit. Ashli whipped my curls into shape, and after sitting under the steamer I could tell the difference in my hair. I think for once my hair actually loved me. I loved my rod set and I received many compliments on it at the Bloggers Like Me meetup, more on that to come. Thanks so much Ashli, if you are reading this!

ASOS Rompering Around

Warning this is not an outfit post. Well, it is but it isn’t. It’s more like a, “Hey look how cute I was during a recent photo shoot with a face full of makeup.” Actually, let me make a correction. My face was B.E.A.T. like an African drum, hunny.

A while back I participated in a “natural hair” blogger photo shoot coordinated by my friend, and fellow blogger, Kiwi. The shoot was super über awesome sauce, rolled in edible sprinkles fun, and I received a full face makeover while at the photo shoot. So seeing how I’m a narcissistic blogger. No, really. I decided to do a little photo session, post photo shoot, of my own.

I love makeup, jewelry, fashion, and every thing else that makes women’s toes wiggle with excitement. However, getting dressed up and doing style and/or outfit posts is not my thing. I mean how many times can one take pictures of the same poses. I for one can’t do it. I always end up bursting out duck lips, crossed eyes, wanna be model poses, and uncontrollable giggles every time I try to act like I’m nonchalantly posing. It’s hard work here people. Hats off to all the style bloggers that do it well, but I can’t. As the young folks say “I ain’t about that life.”

So with that being said, don’t expect this to be a style post filled with me attempting to act like I just rolled out the bed in head to toe fabulousness, and a camera just happened to be close by. My bad, did I say too much?! *covers fingers and slowly backs away from keyboard* I mean I really want to grab my favorite Zara blouse, bubble necklace, H&M floral pants, Louboutins, and romp around my local pub for some fabulous outfit shots. Wait my bad, wrong blog. However, we working with ASOS, Target, and the like up in here, with a good ole point and shoot manned by my mister. So, don’t hold your breath anytime soon.

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls Review

As promised I’m back with a review of Miss Jessie’s latest product, Pillow Soft Curls, that I had the pleasure of previewing and receiving at a recent blogger event.

I’ll be honest, when I saw Pillow Soft Curls applied at the Pillow Soft Curls preview I thought, “Humh that does look like it’s amazing, but I wonder how it will work on my type of hair.” I’m not into hair typing, ya know the 2b, 4c, etc. However if I had to categorize my hair, I would say it’s just like Jesus’s hair: Wooly and 8F. Don’t laugh, it is. You know they said Jesus had hair like wool, and He passed it right on to me. My hair is thick, course, and nappy. Gasp, I know I said the “N word.” I am totally comfortable with saying nappy, because I’m talking about my hair, and I love every nappy, coarse, don’t want to hold a curl, shrinks up in 2.5 seconds hair on my head. As far as having 8F hair…. Well, y’all don’t know about that 8F hair. My hair is so off the chain that is not even on the hair typing finder. So while I was excited to try Pillow Soft Curls, in the back of the mind, I was curious if it would work well on my hair too.

Pillow Soft Curl, Miss Jessie's, Natural Hair, curly hair

See, just like Jesus. Wooly and 8F. Told ya!

The staff at Curltopia suggested the best way to apply Pillow Soft Curls is via the shingling method, a method I’m not a fan of because I always end up with water everywhere and product slowly dripping down my back. However I decided to follow directions, for once, to get the max styling results. I shampooed and conditioned with Hello Hydration 2-n-1 Shampoo & Conditioner, detangled with a Denman brush, and used Kinky-Curly Knot Today as a leave-in conditioner. Once all that was done I applied the Pillow Soft Curls and waited to see if my curls would pop or not.

I’m excited to say I’m impressed with Pillow Soft Curls. The product has a light airy smell and is not overpowering like Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue (which by the way is great for twist outs). It’s not sticky or have a tacky texture that will leave residue in your hair, and it provides a soft but firm hold. I was worried my hair wouldn’t hold up, because the product is meant for a soft hold, but surprisingly it did. I also noticed that my hair did not feel crunchy or hard the next day, it definitely stood up to its description. While I wouldn’t use Pillow Soft Curls for a twist out, set and curl, or braid out, I will be using it again for my wash and “do a whole bunch to my hair” go.

My curls were popping with Pillow Soft Curls

What do you think? Will you be trying Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls?

Black Girls Rock

Psssst! You don’t know it but I’m a rock star, baby! Yes! I! Am! Full on Metallica listening, screaming at the top of my lungs, Nirvana loving rock star. Yep, black girls rock too! What, y’all didn’t know?! Well let me run it down for you. Tracee Ellis Ross, rock star. June Ambrose, rock star. Beverly Bond, rock star. Yours truly, freaking rock star.

You don’t have to kick down doors, rock purple hair, and have every orifice (known to man) pierced to be a rock star. Nope, it’s all about how you feel inside and exude yourself.

That being said, if you have an inner rock star and you want to bring her out in all her fabulosity, then voilà! These two outfits scream, “I’m a bad shut you mouth chick!” So throw some caution to the wind, and take your rock star from inner to outer.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. How ridiculously fabulous are the Isabel Marant High-Top Sneakers. What?! I literally drool over them every time one pops up in my Pinterest feed. They are what fashion dreams are made of.

Plus Size Fashion On-line Faves

Confession, I loathe the mall. Yes, shocker. I mean how can I call my self a lover of fashion, but loathe the mall?! One word, easy! I do the majority of my shopping on-line. ASOS, Fashion to Figure, Target (or if you want to get fancy, Tar-jay), and Forever 21 are companies whose websites I browse often. They are also my favorite on-line plus size fashion sites.

As a full figured, curvy, plus sized, or whatever the blogoshphere is currently calling an “extra meat on the bone” lovely, the previous mentioned companies always have affordable and fashionable clothing to keep me looking fabulous.

Oh, and the best thing is if I don’t like something I can return it for free. Yes, ma’mn I said for free. Which means I can stalk the UPS man….uhm don’t act like y’all haven’t done that before, try my purchases on in the comfort of my on home, and if something doesn’t fit I can send it back or drop it off at the nearest location. Easy peezy, just like fashion should be!

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!
