First off, I know. That. Title. Yes, I’m really that corny. Feel free to judge.

Now that we got that out the way….*tootsie rolls in with new hair*

So some of y’all follow me on da Instagram, some of y’all don’t. Which side note I’m not sure why you wouldn’t follow me, because my Instagram is *sings* fabuloussssss!

Anywhoo, if you follow me on da Instagram you would have seen a picture of me Beyonce twerkin with some new hair.

I had totally planned to come in and let you know all the details about my new hair. But then I ate some carbs, I jumped on Facebook, I took a nap. I ate some more carbs again, got sleepy, blah blah blah.

Then ya know I look up and realize I ain’t blogged nothing. Whoops.

Without further ado, my new hair courtesy of K Logan Hair. Drum roll, please.

Can you tell I was excited about my new hair?!

So, Akia of K Logan Hair is one of the first stylists I have met that immediately got what I wanted.

Odds are 99.9% of the time stylists, no matter how hard I try to explain, don’t understand what I want. Most stylists look at me like, “Are you even speaking English” when I explain to them the style I have in mind.

Not Akia. I told Akia I wanted a color that would look good whether my hair was straightened or in it’s natural curly state. I also told her I wanted a color in the sandy brown family.

She nailed it. Akia not only gave me the color I had in mind, but she also gave me a layered color. If you look closely you can see the top of my hair is lighter than the back.

Akia also gave my hair an over-due trim.

I really love my hair. It didn’t turn out as bone straight as I like, probably because I haven’t had heat on my hair in a million years, but when I walked out of K Logan Hair you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t gone with the wind fabulous.

If you are looking for a stylist in the Atlanta area, someone who listens to you and strives to give you want you want, please visit Akia of K Logan Hair.

You can find Akia at her salon and on Facebook, tell her Miss Foodie Fab sent you.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

*sigh* You know how you totally have a great idea, and then it turns into a total fail. Well that’s what happened when I tried to be fancy with my nail art.

A. Total. Fail.

See, I saw this nail art design on Pinterest and thought, “Ohhh that’s easy, I can do that!”

So I ran over to my nearest Walgreens to purchase nail polish remover, quick dry nail polish, and a manicure clean-up pen with with my new Walgreens Balance Reward card.

Once I got home I broke out some of my favorite nail polishes, manicure supplies, and a nail art pen set gifted from my mother.

I soaked my nails, cleaned up my cuticles, and filed and buffed my nails to perfection.

I applied a green top coat, a coat of quick dry, pink and black polish, and a second coat of quick dry to my nails.

I was pleased with my DIY nail art, at that point, because I could see my design taking shape.

Next I placed dots of various colors on my green coat of nail polish, and then it happened…..

A. Complete. Fail.

Because I had the brilliant idea to immediately apply a third coat of quick dry to my nails, my dots smeared all over. It was terrible. TERRIBLE. *sigh*

I mean I totally wanted it to look fabulous like some of the nail art found on Facebook.

Instead, I got this……

This.

And, this. *sits in corner wailing*

I reckon I won’t quick my day job to become a professional manicurist, because I’m pretty sure no one wants a nail art design that looks like it was done by an inpatient five year old. *single tear*

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. Walgreens is having a 2 for $10 sale, thru 5/25, on Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure Polish. If you want to try your own hand at DIY nail art, check out Walgreens Pop Art, and if you are on Pinterest check out this Pinterest Party for a chance to win a year supply of Sally Hansen products.

Since 1949, May has been observed as National Mental Health Awareness Month. During the month of May advocates for mental health educate their communities on mental health issues, treatment options, and ways to reduce the stigma of mental health.

Mental Health issues can affect anyone. No one is immune.

Many people believe because they may have not been diagnosed with a mental illness such as chemical depression, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder, that they don’t need to think about mental health.

Well, they are wrong. Post postpartum depression, feelings of anxiety, and self-isolation are just many of the mental health issues that touch the lives of us all.

But the thing is, most people are too proud or ashamed to admit it. They say to themselves: “If I ask for help, that will mean something is wrong with me.” “What if they think I’m crazy?” “I don’t need anyone’s help!”

As someone who worked in mental health, I’ve heard all the above too many times to count. And, you know what: Yes, there may be something chemically wrong with you. People may think you are crazy. You do need someone’s help.

However, does it mean you should be loved any less than someone that has been diagnosed with cancer, or stigmatized?! Hell no!

Your life is more important than anyone’s judgement. Asking for help, and seeking treatment, is one of the bravest thing anyone can do for themselves.

This month I encourage you to visit your health care professional and ask for a mental health evaluation, if you feel you are struggling with mental health.

If you aren’t having any mental health struggles I ask you be a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and stop shaming your family and friends into not seeking help. You never know if you will be the link that keeps someone from taking their own life.

It’s up to each one of us to seek the support we need, and to not judge another person’s mental health struggle.

With that being said, won’t you take the stigma out of mental health?

For more information on how you can help take the stigma out of mental health, and support your family and friends suffering with mental illness, please visit the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

So needless to say when I have to deal with anyone before noon, coffee is my best friend.

Except, I don’t have time in the morning to grind coffee beans, brew, and blah blah blah the other stuff many coffee drinkers do. Nope, I just want to grab a good cup of coffee and go.

That’s where my Keurig and single serve coffee K-cups come in. I just pop, drop, and lock in a K-cup and in an instant I have a perfect cup of coffee.

But, this post isn’t about my Keurig. Although it is quite fabulous. This post is about Gevalia single serve coffee cups, specifically the Colombian single serve cups.

First off, they are amazing. Like, really. And, I give you five reasons why.

Reason #1: The taste is smoooooooooooooth! Yes, smooth with extra o’s included.

Reason #2: Gevalia’s Colombian coffee is rich, bright, and well-bodied. You see that rich and bright color?!

This is major because I like my sugar with coffee. Yes you read correctly, I said “my sugar with coffee.”

Typically I put at least 10 packs or more of Splenda in my coffee to get it just right. I mean I like coffee, but I’m not here for the bitter taste of coffee.

I know totally weird, but hey who are you working with?! Yeah, me. However, Gevalia’s Colombian coffee is so rich and smooth that I only needed to put 5 packs of Splenda in my cup. *twerks wildly *

Reason #3: The price is oh so nice.

For less than $8 you get 12 cups of premium coffee. Now where you can get that deal anywhere else?! I’ll wait right here and let you think, and if you say Starbucks I’m going to mule kick the air. No, for serious. Mule kick. The. Air.

Reason #4: Because I said they were amazing.

Tee hee. Just kidding. Well, kinda.

Reason #5: Gevalia will give you life.

Chile, I had one cup and sped through the day. Like, it was instant life. Granted it could have been the coffee AND the sugar burst I got from the piece of cake I had it with, but I’m pretty sure it was the Gevalia coffee.

So there you have it. If you want a quick cup of coffee that is rich and never bitter in taste, I’d encourage you to give Gevalia’s single serving coffee cups a try!

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

What, you thought I meant that kind of fat. *rolls eyes* Chile, all the way bye. Naw, I’m just funny and thick.

See you ran in here cause you though I was going to say I fell off my weight loss journey. I see how you do.

Nope, I’m still on it. Granted extremely slowly, and sometimes I hit the pause button. But, I’s stilllll here!

This week was the end to BLM Get Fit, and my girl Britt wanted all the co-hosts to share their experiences with the BLM Get Fit Competition and Challenge.

I did not take part in the competition, because I knew that in three months I was not going to lose enough weight to win the competition. And to be honest I was not even going to play myself like that, because I know I love to eat.

However, I participated in the weekly challenges and looked forward to them every week. I didn’t think I would learn something from the challenges, but indeed I did.

The weekly challenges helped me to:

1. Recognize I needed to increase my daily water intake, during the Water Wasted Challenge.

And let me tell you, my skin thanked me for it. Since increasing my daily water intake I’ve only had one breakout on my face.

Praise God from whom all aqua flows.

2. Realize that sweets aren’t my down fall, but carbs are, during the No Carbs For A Day Challenge.

I may or may not twerk on a handstand for a pastry, but I’ve never met a carb I didn’t like. Ever.

Sweets I can do with out. However, if you said bread was going out of existent. What?! *faints*

Please believe I’d be curled up in a field of wheat, just crying and rocking myself back and forth. Talking about some, “Jesus I’m not going to make it. Take me to the upper room!”

3. Understand that I ain’t got no friends, during the buddy Health Challenge.

Well to be completely honest, I have friends. Friends I can work out with, now that is another story.

I’ve never truly liked to work out with people. When I’m in the zone, I am in the zone. Which means, I’m not here for chit chat at the gym.

However, having a workout out buddy makes you accountable. Knowing someone is depending on you, just as much as you depend on them, to workout makes you get up and moving. Even if you really don’t want to.

I made the executive decision that my husband will be my workout buddy. I mean he insists on keeping me F.A.T. by bringing in all kinds of “Unh Unh” and “Yes, Gawd” food into the house, so he has to help me work it off.

Anywhoo, that’s it for now. Like I said, I’m still FAT.

P.S. Feel free to share your personal successes, setbacks, and before and after pictures on Britt’s blog!

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

Did you know March was National Frozen Food Month?! Yep, it is. I know you are probably thinking, “Another month dedicated to food. What next National Chitlins Sandwich Month?!” Wait, maybe that was just me. Oh.

In honor of National Frozen Food month I wanted to share with you my go-to secret for the times I don’t feel like slaving over a hot stove, but I still want to stay on my weight loss plan.

I admit sometimes I do not have time to cook a warm meal. At the end of a long work day, when I’m absolutely famished, I want something fast and quick to take my blood sugar from homicidal to happy. That’s where frozen meals come in.

I know you are thinking, “Really Miss Foodie Fab?! A frozen meal?! I’d rather eat cardboard.” Trust me, I’ve been there and thought that. Whenever I think of the frozen meals I would beg for as a child, because they had some prize or desert inside, I immediately cringe.

However, today’s’ frozen meals are not the heavily processed frozen meals of the past. Today many frozen meals are created and inspired by chefs, and made with simple and fresh ingredients. The flavor, ingredients, and nutrition in today’s frozen meals have come a long way. Now a days you can find crisp vegetables, tender meats, and more in frozen meals.

In the past a frozen meal could send your diet on a tailspin to failure, but there are many healthy and low-calorie options available on the market. Healthy Choice, which happens to be one of the frozen meals I buy often, has many meals under 400 calories.

In addition to being low in calories, Healthy Choice provides Weight Watchers points on their meals. This makes it sooo much easier to pick up a meal out the fridge and forgo spending unnecessary time calculating how many points your dinner is.

Many people think frozen meals are uninspiring and boring, and yes they are if you are simply opening up the box and popping them in the microwave. However if you break out your plates and silverware, I don’t mean the plastic kind, and add a dash or two of seasoning, you can take your meal from pfft to pow!

I “doctor” up my frozen meals all the time, and make sure I eat them on real plates and with real silverware, for dinner. I know it’s “extra,” but it really makes a difference. See what a little bit of Siracha, pepper, and basil will do to Healthy Choice’s General Tso’s Spicy Chicken.

Like I said, frozen meals have stepped their game up. There is no longer an excuse to treat them like the red-headed step-children of the frozen foods section. The next time you are too tired to cook, but still want something simple that won’t ruin your weight loss plan, I’d suggest you reach for a healthier choice. Get it?! Healthy Choice. Oh, okay then! Bye!

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. Healthy Choice and Marie Callender’s created a video that follows two women on the adventures of their daily lives, imagining how new technologies will impact their routines, especially in the grocery store. Check it out.

ConAgra Foods frozen meals give families access to real ingredients like crunchy, freshly cut vegetables, homemade pasta and ripe fruit year-round. Just like most people blanch veggies before freezing them – ConAgra Foods does too – to help preserve color, texture and keep them fresh!

Give it a try sometime! Marie Callender’s hearty pot pies are filled with tender meat, freshly cut vegetables and Marie’s authentic golden, flaky crust. And Healthy Choice recipes use chef-inspired ingredients like, apples instead of sugar for tart sweetness and a splash of red wine for a punch of flavor instead of added salt.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of ConAgra Foods.

I love “running the streets” as my grandma used to tell me, because I’m a social butterfly, and I’m always down for a great event.

Although I never miss a par-tay, hunty *snaps fingers, twirls, & dips,* sometimes I do miss out on attending an event. Most of the times I miss out on an event because I didn’t hear about it, heard about it too late, or simply plain didn’t want to attend.

However, often to not I miss an event because of the first two previous reasons. And because I know what it’s like to say, “Dag I wish I’d known about that event, because I would have went.” I figured I’d be hospitable and share with you some fun events in your area, from time to time. You know, so you won’t miss out on a par-tay either.

Check out these upcoming events. You can thank me later, in wine!

Fro Fashion Week has returned. I got plenty of great products for my hair when I attended last year, so I made sure I purchased my tickets to attend this year too! Get your tickets to Fro Fashion Week, especially if you have natural hair!

My blogger sis, Mo at Curls and Mo, is hosting an event on March 9th for those in NYC! Her last event sold out, and I heard it was all types of fun. Trust me, if I lived in the NYC I’d be in attendance. You can purchase tickets now for $5. Tell her Miss Foodie Fab said hi!

Cafe 458 in the Old Fourth Ward area of Atlanta is having a grand re-opening on March 3rd, and will be ready to serve you brunch.

I love Cafe 458 because all proceeds (including tips) benefit Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency (ACSS). ACSS is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness in metro Atlanta and beyond, and empowering homeless people to achieve economic self sufficiency.

I’ve been to Cafe 458 on more than one occasion, and I’m glad to see they are back in business after a bit of a hiatus. For more information and to make reservations, check out Cafe 458′s webpage.

The 2013 Atlanta Chef’s Expo, held on February 24 at the Georgia World Congress Center, was an event perfect for foodies, culinary lovers, and those that simply love to eat.

The Atlanta Chef’s Expo provided the chance for food lovers to see their favorite Atlanta chefs come from behind their kitchens and prepare specialty dishes for the public.

Chef Scott Serpas of Serpas Restaurant was on hand demonstrating why his restaurant is one of the top restaurants in Atlanta, and to meet and greet VIP tickets holders.

There were savory bites, sweet eats, and plenty of delicious dishes on hand. The expo was broken up into several categories and there was something for everyone’s palate.

“Restaurant Row” was the place to wander up and down sampling dishes from local Atlanta restaurants. Chef Rob’s Caribbean Cafe, Thrive, and Meehan’s Public House were some of the restaurants on “Restaurant Row” to name a few.

“The Chef’s Table” section of the expo held Atlanta’s private and independent chefs dishing out some of their best dishes. Chef Ameerah Watson’s, of Intimate Chef of Atlanta, fish and grits made many people come back for seconds to “The Chef’s Table” section.

“The Sugar Shack” section of the expo was where you could get your sweet tooth fix. There were so many sweets to enjoy that attendees probably will have their dentists dolling out lectures their next visit. For future brides and grooms, or party planners, “Catering Alley” was the section to visit to and discover a catering company that may fit the bill for the big day.

However, food wasn’t the only thing on everyone’s mind at the Atlanta Chef’s expo. Cocktail designer Kitt Lewis was mixing and serving up signature cocktails at the Patron Mixing Lounge, and Infiniti was in the building with their latest vehicles and a chance to win a gourmet dining experience. Lethal Rhythms Entertainment’s was also on hand spinning tunes to keep everyone happy dancing with a fork and plate in their hand.

At the end of the 2013 Atlanta Chef Expo many attendees were full to the hilt, fatisfied (fat + satisfied), and ready to do it all again next year.

The Atlanta Chef’s Expo founders, Alisha Nesbitt and Cheryl Hasting of Enchanted Events and Enchanted Blu Events, accomplished their goal of celebrating Atlanta’s culinary talent.

Thank You to the Reynold’s Group for allowing me to attend.

If you like to eat, and want the chance to meet some of your favorite local chefs, then definitely purchase tickets for the next Atlanta Chef’s Expo.

Speaking of chef’s, do you have a favorite chef? Please share!

Last Monday if you watched my weight loss update video you may have heard me mention I am presently on the Weight Watchers plan. In the near future I will share how Weight Watchers works, and how it works for me, but this week I wanted to share some resources that have helped me on the Weight Watchers plan.

The first resource is a food journal I found on Laa Loosh. I use these Weight Watchers food journals to keep track of my points every week.

Speaking of Laa Loosh, Laa Loosh is one of my favorite sites for Weight Watchers recipes. On Laa Loosh you can look up recipes by points value and food category.

When I’m out to eat, I turn to Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone. Dotti probably has every restaurant you can think of on her site. If you are wondering how many Weight Watchers points plus a Chipotle bowl will cost you, Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone is where you will find the answer.

On the occasions I’m without my Weight Watchers calculator at the grocery store, and I need to know how many points something is before I buy it, I’ll visit One More Pound. One More Pound has an on-line points plus calculator, and I made sure to bookmark it on my smart phone.

For the moments when I need motivation to keep pushing, I head over to Pinterest. On my Foodie Fab Fit board I’ve pinned several pics and quotes to keep me motivated and moving forward.

If you are participating in this week’s BLM Get Fit challenge, this week’s challenge is BLM Switch Up. I want you to try a new type of exercise this week, and take a pic with the hash tag #BLMSwitchUp and #BLMGetFit on Twitter or Instagram.

Also, if you have a weight loss or health related blog post, please link up with Beatrice Clay this week. Just remember to be courteous and mention and refer your readers to Beatrice Clay’s blog, in the post.

I hope my Weight Watchers resources will be of service to you!

Since sharing is caring, if you have any weight loss resources please share them with me.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!
