Natural Hair Blogger Photo Shoot

A while back I had the pleasure of participating in a natural hair blogger photo shoot coordinated by my play little sis and fellow blogger, Kiwi the Beauty. It was my first time participating in a photo shoot and I felt like a diva all day. I can totally see why celebrities do what they do, because having  an opportunity to get glammed and taking pictures is something I could get used to.

The purpose of the shoot was to showcase Atlanta natural hair bloggers and why they made the decision to stop relaxing their hair, or made the decision to never relax their hair. To learn why I decided to stop relaxing my hair, and what my favorite hair products are, please check out my interview on Kiwi the Beauty’s blog.

As for now, here are some of my favorite pics from the photo shoot. Enjoy!

Shit I Don’t Like

So I totally though this “Shit I don’t Like” video was lost, but clearly the internet gods love me! Apparently even though SocialCam provided a failure to upload message, and my feed showed no videos, someone was meant to see this!

This video was made back in October after one of my BLM Girls, Kelly, talked about the “Shit I Don’t Like” videos circulating on You Tube. She wanted to know who would be down to do a “ShitI Don’t Like” post or video. Of course I was all in. However, since I’m lazy I grabbed my Iphone and got to shooting the ish I don’t like, instead of writing a post. Because, ain’t nobody got time to read all that.

Be warned, I’m the queen of snark and you will be looking up my nose the majority of the time. My bad. Oh, and kindly ignore all the old blog info, I’m staying Miss Foodie Fab. Again, it was filmed in October people!

Oh, and this video may not be safe for work. Loud laughing may be involved. You have been warned!

So, since you now  know the shit I don’t like, sound off one or two things you don’t like!

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. If the video is not appearing for you, please click this link . Thank you.

Full Figured Fashionista

I am a plus size, full figured, busty gal and I’m always on the look out for other fashionista with extra meat on their bones. Way before I started this blog, and before she had a blog, I had my eye on Britt of “My Big, Beautiful, Life!” Reason why, besides being a fellow team only child member and my giggle buddy, the girl has style. Every time she posts a pic on Instagram I’m  like, “Where did you get that, who did your hair, and what did you put on your face to make it look tighter than an African drum?!” So, it was only right that she kick off my monthly full figured fashionista series.

So, without further ado…introducing my girl Britt!

Full Figured, Fashionista, Curvy, Plus Size

What makes you a fashionista?

I cringe when I hear someone refer to me as a fashionista, because really…I don’t try to be! My sorority sister, Nishan, used to have this saying, “I look good…even on my worst day”! This is the mantra that I try to live by every day, and I guess that’s what makes me a fashionista. I’m going to look GOOD (or at least try to), even if I’m feeling the absolute worst!

Describe your style in five words?

Classy. Never trashy. Sometimes sassy.

Who are your style icons/inspires your style, and why?

I’m one of those people who never really follows celebrity style. Honestly, some of the people who inspire my style are everyday people! I tend to get a lot of my inspiration from fellow bloggers. Two of my favorites in particular are Brittany from “Pockets and Bows,” and Mia from “Diary of a Fatshionista.” I love both of their styles for different reasons. I like Brittany’s style, because she always looks nice without overdoing it. I find myself seeing how I can recreate her everyday looks for the office. Mia, because that girl is FIERCE when she goes out on the weekends! She WERKS every single look and I  “pink puffy heart” that. I LIVE when I see their outfit of the day or outfit of the night pictures on Instagram!

miss foodie fab, full figured, fashionista, curvy girl, my big beautiful life, plus size

If you had to wear one item, in or outside of your closet, for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

A couple of weeks ago I would have said my denim vest, but I can’t say that now because I have developed a love affair with my new red blazer! I searched high and low this year and last for the perfect one, only to be disappointed when everyone I ordered just didn’t do it for me. A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon one that I love from a place I NEVER shop…Rainbow! I only bought it two weeks ago and I have worn that thing out. Blazers are essential to any wardrobe because of the versatility. They can be dressed up with a dress, or down with some jeans. I love them and I am so glad to FINALLY have my red one!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Being plus size, it’s hard to find great stuff in stores, so I do most of my shopping online. My obsession for ASOS is somewhat insane. It is the first place I go to when I am looking for a dress for an event, and nine times out of ten, I find it. Their Curve line is so versatile and very affordable. A close second for me is Forever21. Yes…I am almost 30 still shopping at Forever 21, and no…I really don’t care! Their plus size skinny jeans are the best and fit like a glove! I have also started shopping more at curvy online boutiques. My favorites are Curvy Chic Boutique, Everything Curvy and Chic, and ShapElyLouise.

miss foodie fab, full figured, curvy, my big beautiful life, plus size, fashionista

How do you feel about labels such as plus size, full-figured, etc.

I don’t really agree with the use of labels to describe anything (especially size). However, it’s the reality of the world we live in and I have to deal with that. Being an African-American woman, I am labeled many things, so the label of plus size or full-figured just adds to the list. I can rant about how I hate it, get mad when someone refers to me as plus-size, or I can own it. I choose to own it, and make it FABULOUS!

How do you stay healthy and keep your curves?

Currently, what works best for me is maintaining a 1200 calorie per day diet and working out 5-6 times per week.  I usually do about 40-50 minutes of cardio and strength training on my workout days. I am at the point now that I don’t really try to focus or obsess about on the pounds. I focus on making better living choices.  They both go hand in hand, because when you make better living choices the pounds and inches will come off!

So there you have, do you see why Britt is a full figured fashionista?! Whoops, I know if she is reading this I probably just made her cringe by saying that, but whatever I call it like I see…..and she is all types of a fabulous full-figured fashionista. To see more of Britt working it, and hear what she has to say (she’s a bit of riot sometimes) head on over to her blog, FB, IG, and Twitter!

Ohhh, and P.S. A little birdie also told me if you head over to her blog now, you may see someone you know. *points to self and walks away*

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

My Name Is Hov

Okay, not really. My name isn’t Hov, it’s Miss Foodie Fab! However, allow me to reintroduce myself….

You are not tuned in to the new and improved Miss Foodie Fab! That Miss Foodie Fash chick, uhm yeah we had to let her go because I mean look at me, I’m FABULOUS!

Besides a name change, this little ole blog got a sparkling new home courtesy of Her Name is Kim! As the young folks say, it’s the business! Right?! Well, okay the young folks probably don’t say that anymore…but it’s the business none the less. Just saying, you check my header yo?! It’s pretty damn awesome sauce if I must say.Yep, that was all Miss Kim! Ask her about her. *drops mic*

Oh, wait….my bad. *pics up mic again* Whoops, got a little carried away. Sorry, fabulousness does that to me. *shrug*

Anywhooooo, in addition to some new digs I made it easier for you to subscribe, follow, like me, etcetera etcetera on all forms of social media. So er uhm, I’ma need for you to do that, like now! Please! K, thanks!

If you are new to all this and you are thinking, “This chick is crazy!” Well, yes I am. Not the standing at the front door licking the screen while dressed in cowboy boots, Beyonce’s onsie, and wrapped in Saran Wrap crazy. No, I’m more like Martinnnn you so crazy, I can’t believe you said that type crazy! So if you haven’t heard about me before, please click on over to my about page.

Phew, with all that out the way I want to tell you all about what’s in store on Miss Foodie Fab.

Monday Musings, Wednesday Wow, and Foodie Fridays are coming to you soon! I’ll be sharing recipes, foodies, full figure fashionistas, beauty, fashion, and why I think the word oxblood should be stricken indefinitely from the blogger dictionary (no, really)….just to name a few.

Now that we have gotten the reintroduction out the way, buckle in and enjoy the ride!

As always,

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

Bloggers Like Me Atlanta Meetup

If you didn’t know, or couldn’t tell by the pretty badge on my blog, I’m a proud card-carrying Bloggers Like Me (BLM) Girl. As I previously mentioned, the BLM Girls are a fantastic community of female bloggers who I have learned so much from, and made some fabulous connections through.

In October the BLM Girls will host several happy hours in NY, LA, Chicago, DC, Charlotte, and of course Atlanta. If you would like to join BLM and attend one of our future meetups, but you are unsure what’s in store for you, please watch this quick video recap of the first Atlanta meetup I hosted.

I hope to see you at a BLM meetup in the future!

Fashion Night Out Atlanta, Fro Fashion Week, & More

So what had happened was….. Don’t you love it when a conversation or an apology starts off like that?! Yeah me neither, but uhm what had really happened was I was a bit of a social busy bee in September. So much so that instead of sharing with you all my September escapades in individual blog posts, I just Instagrammed my patootie off. However before you start with the, “I don’t follow you on Instagram” speech, I want you to know I got you mannnnn! Check out my pics from Fashion Night Out Atlanta, Fro Fashion Week, and more!

Pretty City’s Live Beautifully Event was a blast! There were manicures, pole dancing, massages, wine, food, and all kinds of swag. I had a fabulous time and I can’t wait until they return!

Chef Liu, Dumplings, Green Tea, Noodles, Chinese Pancake, Foodie

After all the running around I did in September, it was time for some me time. I took myself on a date to my favorite ATL Chinese restaurant, and it was worth every bite.

There you have it folks, see I totally had an excuse for my lack of posts. September was a ball of activity and I’m looking forward to what October has in store, while continuing to bringing you food, fashion, and fabulosity!

Please let me know how your September went, any thing cool happen?

Versatile Blogger Award and Seven Random Facts

My blogger cousin in my head, GoodLooknOut, nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Well truthfully she nominated 14 other bloggers too, but in my head she only nominated me. Yes, I am a narcissist. Just a little.

In order to accept the Versatile Blogger Award, there are a few directions one must follow:

1. Nominate 15 bloggers who are relatively new to blogging.
2. Let the nominated bloggers know that they have been nominated.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Thank the blogger who has nominated you.
5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your post.

Being a good sport, and working on following directions, I’ve decided to play along. Here are my “7 Random Facts” and nominations.

Seven Random Facts About Miss Foodie Fab:

1. I collect pigs. No not real pigs, but pig paraphernalia. My collection is pretty newsworthy.

2. If hot sauce can be eaten with it, it’s going on it. I am a spice lover and I pretty much put hot sauce on any and everything.

3. I’m a card carrying member of Team Only Child, since 1979, so I have a thing about people touching my things. Like, don’t touch it. No, really. Don’t. Touch. My. Shit.

4. I snort when I laugh really hard. Maybe that’s why I like pigs so much. *shrug*

5. Super tall buildings scare me, probably why I’m not a fan of New York City. It’s not that I’m afraid of heights, I just don’t like looking at or being around super freakishly tall buildings.

6. No one can tell me that The Muppets aren’t real. I saw them walk damn it. They are real.

7. I can be a tomboy but I love girly things. Like, I’m all about sparkles, glitter, and all that girly ish. However, if you try to push pink on me I might just turn into the Incredible Mrs. Hulk.

Incredible Mrs. Hulk, Hulk, Lady Hulk

See, told y’all!

Now for the nominees, drum roll please…..

Common Sense Guide To Blogging

Sooo, if you follow me on Twitter you might have caught my tweet about #thingsblogginghastaughtme. For a moment I was tempted to dust off my Twitter soapbox and go in about all the craziness I’ve noticed since I started blogging, but then I realized at the end of the day who would really give a “you know what” about my rant.

Well clearly I was wrong, because I received several tweets telling me to go right on in. Being the lady my momma raised me to be, I declined, but it did get me to thinking….. clearly common sense isn’t always common in the blogging world.

With that being said, I give to you my “Common Sense Guide to Blogging, Because Common Sense Isn’t Common!”

Common Sense #1: Please follow-up.

If someone contacts you, follow-up. Expecting a return email, tweet, DM, FB mention, text, BBM (wait nobody has those anymore), and/or a pigeon delivered note shouldn’t be unexpected. Now by all means I know people have 9-5′s, kids, etc. that keep them busy, but a return reply in a timely fashion doesn’t hurt anyone.

Common Sense #2: A thank you goes a long way.

Blogging is a community and more often than not if you have a blogging related question, another blogger has the answer for you. If you ask for tips, advice, counseling, etc. and someone provides the information to you….please please please say thank you. Again, people have lives outside of blogging. So if someone takes the time to help you in any shape or fashion, no matter how small, it’s only courteous to thank them for it because next time they may not be so quick to help.

Common Sense 3: Watch how you treat people.

People don’t know this but the blogging community is very small in certain areas of the world. You will meet someone who knows someone who knows someone you want to know. All it takes is one snide remark, side eye, eye roll, teeth suck, brush off, need I go on, for you to quickly miss a blessing. That person that you are throwing shade to might be the key to your destiny. P.S. Shout out to my pastor, he recently preached on that. (Yes I gave a shout out to my pastor, you know how we do, say something!)

Common Sense 4: Don’t hate, appreciate.

Look, I’ma need you to stop all that laughing. No, really. Y’all know I had to bring it back. You done yet?! Can we move on now? K, thanks. Seriously, don’t spend your time worrying about someone’s else blogging success. Congratulate them and focus on how you can get where they are at. Heck, better yet try reaching out to them and see how you can help and learn from them. Blessing or helping someone else does not dull your shine. A candle doesn’t lose any of its light by lighting another candle, trust me on that.

common sense, building, networking, motivational quote, quote

Common Sense 5: Before you ask someone a question, Google it!

Okay, this is a personal pet peeve of mine so please allow me to be selfish and add this in: Google is your friend, and Pinterest is too. They have this thing called the internet, and it’s truly remarkable. I hear you can type in a question, word, etc. and find information on it. I know, shocking right?! But seriously, all kidding aside no question is a dumb question. However, it is in my opinion very lazy to ask a question you could have easily found yourself (especially if you were asking said question on the internet that you could have used to research the answer to your question). *nosedives off soapbox and kicks it to the side*

Like I said, this is pure common sense. This isn’t brain surgery or trigonometry. Oh, and before you do the eye and head roll talking bout, “She just started blogging, whatever!” I kindly suggest you go back to #3. Pleasantries.

Please let me know what common sense advice you would give to a blogger.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls Preview

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending a blogger preview of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls hosted by Curly Girl Lexi at Curtopia in Smyrna, Georgia.

It was a wonderful event and I got the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of my favorite style bloggers, twitter pals, and naturalistas. While at the event I picked up some valuable hair care tips from Curltopia’s stylists and watched a product demonstration of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls on two hair models.

Pillow Soft Curls is Miss Jessie’s new styling lotion ideal for a soft curly hold. It’s a “fabric softener” type styling lotion, hence the name pillow soft curls, and will be hitting stores this month. Let me just say I have seen the product in action on several people, and it is amazing! Even after 2nd and 3rd day hair, it continues to do a great job.

It was my first time at Curltopia and the shop is fantabulous, I wanted to steal their chandeliers and black and white patterned chairs. I’m really looking forward to a return visit to let them work some magic on my hair in the future.

At the end of the night all the bloggers in attendance received a goodie bag with a full sample of the Pillow Soft Curls. Today is my wash day and you all ready know I can’t wait to try it out. Side note: If you are reading this and you want to help me tackle this lion’s mane of mine, feel free to come over. I’m so so serious. I need help!

As usual I had my trusty camera with me and documented the event through pics for you, check them out!

BFF Tweetup at Sol Oasis

One thing I love about blogging is having the opportunity to meet other positive women, and my first event with the Blog Fab Fashionistas (BFFs) was full of positivity, pampering, and gut busting laughter.

The Blog Fab Fashionista group was created by Oh Nikka for bloggers to have an opportunity to network with one another, and local business, via a tweetup (a group of people meeting up at the same place to live tweet the event they are experiencing together). There have been several BFF tweetups to date and the “Pampered & Martinis: Night of Luxury” was the most recent I was invited to.

When I tell you I had fun, that is a complete understatement. Anytime I can lounge in my pajamas, get pampered, eat, drink, and laugh until I snort…well it really can’t get better than that. From the moment I walked into Sol Oasis I felt welcomed, and completely at home, by Nikka and the Sol Oasis staff.

The BFFs were treated to mini manicures, mini pedicures, mini facials, and chair massages by the Sol Oasis owner and staff.

KaSaundra (Sol Oasis owner) is just as sweet and nice as she can be. While receiving a mini manicure she and I chatted about where she was from (NY stand up), the fabulous salon paintings she hand painted, and the body products line (Bootsie and Sass) she created.

Manicure, Sol Oasis

My mini manicure that I loved and a painting by KaSaundra

There was also tasty bites on hand, Lemon Drop martinis, and fresh fruit infused water. The martinis were one of the hits of the night and I have the outtake pictures to prove it, but I’d have to kill you if I shared them. *wink*

BFF, Tweetup, Ally Mc Glam, Sol Oasis

Sol Oasis’s “bartender”, delicious food, and Ally McGlam getting her Lemon Drop on.

Many of the women in attendance are bloggers and entrepreneurs, and the tweetup was an opportunity for several of them to showcase their respective businesses. If you follow me on Instagram you know I purchased the most fabulous spiked bracelet from a fellow BLM Girl, Lynn, I can’t wait to wear. I also met my new blogger bff in my head, Cha’Kiva, at the tweetup. Cha’Kiva designs handbags and accessories and was rocking a pair of her custom creations at the tweetup. Lakeisha Dixon, author of “The Victorious State of Mind,” was also present to discuss her new book. Lakeisha is a powerful speaker and almost had me doing the “ugly cry” and “church sway” when she graced us with a lovely inspiring poem. Not to be out done by the inspirational book and fabulous accessories, Sophia Soso Harris-Starnes provided us all with a sample of her soo soo tasty cake balls. P.S. I totally want to do a ball joke, but my momma may be reading this. *waves* Hey mommy!

In addition to the night of pampering, Nikka raffled off several prizes, and everyone left with a goodie bag stuffed with nail polish and a Carol’s Daughter sample.

As you can tell the BFF event was fantabulous and I can’t wait until the next one. Please drop me a line and let me know what events you’ve been to recently, or are looking forward to attend.

XOXO, Miss Foodie Fab!

P.S. Here’s some more pics of the event. You know I’m all about the pics, honey!
